Building or any civil structure is designed considering its strength to sustain all possible types of loads to which it is likely to be subjected. Mainly buildings or civil structures come across three types of loads which are as under:
i. Dead Load ii. Live Load iii. Wind Load i. Dead Load : This load is applied on the civil structure due to the weight of the parts with which the structure is made up of like; steel, bricks, concrete, mortar, wood, sand etc. ii. Live Load : This load is applied over the civil structure due to moving or variable loads like people, material storage, occupants etc. This could also be due to falling snow or rains over the building. iii. Wind Load : This load is applied over the building due to pressure generated over the civil structure due to wind. The basic wind pressure is decided based on meteorological data and local conditions. Seismic load is also considered for buildings in the higher seismic zones. |
