Fabrication word is related to construction or to construct new things with the help of various processes. Fabrication means a process of construction of any product or assembly by combining parts with the help of one or more individual processes like cutting, punching, bending, welding etc.
Processes used for fabrication is known as fabrication processes. There are different types of fabrication processes like forming, punching, shearing, stamping, joining etc. So fabrication means to cut, mold and join metallic and non-metallic parts to form a product.
If we want to assemble two parts, so to join two parts or elements to form a single part is knowns as joining process which is one of the process of fabrication. Processes used for fabrication is called fabrication processes.
Joining is the secondary manufacturing process, it used to join parts obtained from primary manufacturing processes like forming, casting, shearing etc.
Common joining processes are welding, brazing, soldering, mechanical joining by bolts & nuts, screws, rivets etc. and by synthetic glue for adhesive bonding.
Fabrication depends on types of assembly like, permanent, semi permanent, temporary type, nature of material being joined like steel, iron, Al, Cu etc., on type of loading like gradual or impact loading and also depends on temperature. For example permanent joining is done by welding, semi permanent joining done by rivets and temporary joining is done by bolts and nuts.
Adhesive bonding is less stronger fastening method than mechanical fasteners. It helps to join irregular shaped parts. Common adhesives are resins, which provide necessary strength to parts to withstand the applied load as per application.
