What is Foundation?
| Foundation is the lower portion of the building or civil structure which is located below ground level. As the same is in direct contact with ground, it transmits the loads to ground. The lower portion of foundation which is in direct contact with soil is known as footing. The soil below the foundation needs to be strong enough to avoid settlement of the foundations. Uniform settlements leads to lesser damage to the civil structure but differential settlement lead to major damage.
